1LIVING MAP OF AL-ANDALUS
Barcelona - Zaragoza - Valencia - Murcia - Granada - Seville - Cordoba - Toledo - Madrid
Why Spain
Muslim rule reached different parts of the Iberian Peninsula at different moments over many centuries. The strongest surviving monumental concentration is in Andalusia, but Zaragoza, Valencia, Murcia, Toledo and other cities help explain how wide and varied that history became.
A national journey gives context to the famous palaces and mosques of the south. It shows the roads, frontier cities, trading centres and later capitals that connected the changing political geography of medieval Iberia.
Our private Spain journeys combine that historical perspective with the practical needs of Muslim travellers: halal meals, prayer-aware timing, comfortable private transport and enough flexibility to travel at a meaningful pace.
The essential route
A broad first journey can begin in Barcelona before moving through Zaragoza, Valencia or Murcia, then continue south into Halal travel in Andalusia. These stops show that the story of Muslim Iberia was never limited to one modern region.
Córdoba, Seville and Granada form the essential southern arc: Umayyad Córdoba, Almohad Seville and Nasrid Granada each represent a different political and artistic chapter of Al-Andalus.
Toledo and Madrid complete many national itineraries. Toledo adds another major layer of medieval Iberian history, while Madrid works naturally as an arrival, departure and transport hub for journeys that cross the country.
Faith-conscious travel
Halal availability and active prayer spaces vary considerably from one Spanish city to another. We plan around the actual route and current local options instead of assuming that every historic Islamic site functions as a mosque today.
On sightseeing days, prayer timing is considered alongside ticket times, walking distances and transfers. On road journeys, private transport makes it easier to adapt stops without forcing the day around a fixed group schedule.
The result is a journey where Muslim travel needs are part of the itinerary from the beginning, rather than additions made after the sightseeing plan is already fixed.
Planning your journey
Ten to thirteen days works well for a first broad journey that combines several regions with the principal cities of Al-Andalus. A shorter six- to eight-day trip is better focused on Andalusia, Madrid and Toledo rather than trying to cover the entire country.
With more time, Spain can also form the centre of a wider Iberian or Mediterranean journey, adding Portugal or Morocco without sacrificing the pace needed to understand the historical sites.
